Al Ahly Lauds Pitso Mosimane' Influence

Pitso helps Ahly Smash downs record
The Red Devils dismantled Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in a resounding 5-1 aggregate score, with El Shahat stealing the show in the second-leg at the Cairo International Stadium.

Pitso Mosimane helped Al Ahly smash a CAF Champions League record previously held by Mamelodi Sundowns after their 5-1 semi-final thrashing of Wydad AC. Mosimane qualified for his second-ever African Champions League final with a comfortable two-legged victory over the Borola Pro giants as they look towards their record ninth crown.

And in the process 'Jingles' surpassed an incredible feat he achieved with Masandawana when they scored 31 goals in a single campaign as the Red Devils moved to 34 in the 2019/20 season. Marwan Mohsen, Hussein El Shahat and Yasser Ibrahim netted the goals at Cairo International Stadium, with their impressive form being credited to Mosimane's tactical approach.

The Club of the Century completes its Egyptian Premier League campaign against 10th-placed El Gaish on Saturday before the final against Zamalek or Raja Casablanca on 6 November. While the Aliou Dieng midfield masterclass rightfully earned the Mali international the man of the match, it was their record signing, who joined from Al Ain in a 90-million Egyptian pounds (R95m) deal that scored the goal of the tie.

The 28-year-old winger turned his marker inside out and left him on his backside before slotting home to make it 2-0 in the eventual 3-1 second-leg victory. "All of the goals we scored were the work of Pitso Mosimane, this guy has worked hard from day one," he said about the incredible strike before Mosimane called for calm once more. "We did not win the trophy yet.

We still have a difficult match in the final and we will wait to know our opponent," the former Sundowns boss said after reaching his second African Champions League final. "We played both games against Wydad well but our performance in Morocco was better.

We didn't get to the level I want, especially with our passing." The Club of the Century will now face either Raja Casablanca or Zamalek in the final of Africa's elite club competition scheduled for 11 November.
