Peter Shalulile And Kermit Erasmus Are Unstoppable

Peter Shalulile and Kermit Erasmus have slotted in seamlessly to the Brazilians attack and are combing especially well with Themba Zwane Its early days yet but there are some ominous signs for the chasing pack that Mamelodi Sundowns will again be the team to beat this season.

Masandawana were not at their very best against AmaZulu on Sunday at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium yet still won 4-3 to take them to the top of the table. Their first three goals came via a Themba Zwane hat-trick and the fourth was scored by Namibian Peter Shalulile.Shalulile, joint top goal scorer in the league last season while still at Highlands Park, has gotten his Sundowns career off to flying start with his enterprising play and is not only scoring but also creating chances.

The best 50 players in the world The same can be said of Kermit Erasmus, who fired in 13 league goals for Cape Town City last season and has hit the ground running for the Pretoria club. Zwane’s third goal against AmaZulu saw the three of them combining superbly as Shalulile picked out Erasmus’ clever movement in the box, from where he laid the ball off for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Player of the Season to score.

All three are quick, mobile and skillful players and if they are already forming such a promising partnership so early as a new trio, Sundowns will once again be a major force to be reckoned with as they look to defend the treble they won last season – the league, Nedbank Cup and Telkom Knockout. At times there seems an almost telepathic understanding between the three players and there will surely be lots more goals and assists to come from them.

Zwane, among the team’s longer serving players, previously witnessed the likes of Khama Billiat, Keagan Dolly, Leonardo Castro and Percy Tau combining to win matches for Sundowns and has seemingly now taken it upon himself to become the main man. It should also be noted that Masandawana are currently performing as they are without the injured Gaston Sirino, another deadly weapon upfront.

He’s been linked with a move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly. If that does happen, Downs appear to have plenty of cover in attack. And if the Uruguayan stays, well it’s hard to see anyone stopping the star-studded Brazilians.
