Benson Shilongo ( born on 18 May 1992 in Ongwediva ) is a Namibian professional footballer who plays as a Striker for Egyptian football club Ismaily and the Namibian National Team,Brave Warriors. Jersey: #9. Height: 1.85 m. Position: Centre-Forward. Foot: Right.
The three-time Egyptian champion holds an impressing of more than 26 games,scoring six on occasions and providing seven assists in his debut season for Ismaily SC. Shilongo joined Ismaily on 01 Jan 2019 when he completed a lucrative deal of about N$3.5 million to foster a move from Smouha on non-permanent contract. Before joining Smouha, he plied his trade for domestic rivals Al Assiouty Sport also in that country. He has had previous stints in South Africa for Platinum Stars include Botswana with Gaborone United. Boasting a total of 24 national team caps. This industrious striker was also part of the Brave Warriors'squad for 2019 African Cup of Nations in Cairo, Egypt that faced the continental giants Ivory Coast, Morocco and neighbouring rivalry South Africa in Group D. He featured in two of Namibia’s three group matches, facing South Africa and Ivory Coast. Namibia finished bottom of their group after losing all three group encounters, scoring only one goal along the way and conceding six goals. BRAVE WARRIORS
The Namibia national football team, nicknamed the ''Brave Warriors'', represents Namibia in regional and international football and is controlled by the Namibia Football Association (NFA). The Brave Warriors first played on 23 March 1990 two days after the country gained independence from South Africa, they hosted neighboring Zimbabwe that scop advantage 5–1 over the celebratory fever that was engulfed, Namibian players.
Namibia's first win came on 1 July 1994, with a 1–0 victory in the friendly away match against Botswana. On 17 May 1998, Namibia played their first match outside the African continent against non-African opposition, Saudi Arabia losing 2–1 in a friendly in France. Namibia has made first appearances in the African Cup of Nations in 1998, Namibia lost to Ivory Coast 4–3 and drew with Angola 3–3 before losing to South Africa 4–1. The most capped player of the Brave Warriors is retired midfielder Johannes Hindjou with 69 caps and Rudolph Bester is the all-time top goalscorer with 13 goals.
